Practical guidance for using WalletAltis and keeping your records.

Update the app. Keep your records.
WalletAltis preserves your saved records when you update. You do not need to delete the app. JSON backups exported by earlier versions remain supported.

This page includes guidance for an upcoming update. Some features may not appear in your installed build. The app has not yet been released on the App Store.

Save a backup

  1. Use the app’s backup export function to save a JSON file.
  2. Choose a destination you control and can find again. Include the date in the filename and keep older copies when useful.
  3. Check that the file exists at your chosen destination before changing devices or deleting the app.

Exported backups use compact JSON, with unnecessary whitespace removed. They are neither compressed nor encrypted. Choose a safe storage location because they contain financial information.

Backups outside the app are manual. Records entered after an export are not included in that file. Avoid editing the JSON file directly or overwriting your only useful copy.

You can view existing records and export a backup without an active subscription.

Restore financial data

Use the app’s backup import function to select a JSON file previously exported from WalletAltis. Before restoring, save your current data as a separate backup and check which file you are importing. After restoring, review the records, currency, and ledger time zone.

If the file cannot be read, check that it is a WalletAltis backup and that it is actually available from its storage location. Keep the original file and contact support with the error message.

Restoring purchases and restoring data are different.
Restoring Apple purchase information does not bring back financial records. You need a saved data backup or a recovery point still on your device to restore those records.

To undo a restore or a change to the currency, ledger time zone, or a card’s debit bank, open Settings > Recovery Points. The app automatically saves a local copy before saved-data format migrations, backup restores, and changes to the currency, ledger time zone, or a card’s debit bank (up to the 10 newest). It does not create a copy before every app update.

In the production version, restoring a backup or recovery point requires WalletAltis Plus. Exporting and deleting recovery points are available without a subscription. These copies stay on the device, so also export to another location before changing devices or in case of device failure.

If saved data cannot be loaded

If the app says your saved data could not be loaded, the original file is still kept. In Settings > Data recovery, you can:

  • Restore from a recovery point or a backup
  • Start Over with Empty Data (the unreadable file is kept in Recovery Points)
  • Export the Unreadable File

When contacting support, send the error message first. The exported file contains all the data you entered. Send it only if the operator requests it, using a secure method.

Before reinstalling or changing devices

Deleting the app also deletes its local financial records and recovery points. Export a JSON backup outside the app and verify that it has been saved before uninstalling.

WalletAltis has no account you can sign in to for data recovery and no developer-operated storage of your records. Operating-system backups may include app data, but WalletAltis cannot guarantee that those backups contain or can restore it. The operator cannot recover lost financial data.

Deleting the app does not cancel an Apple subscription. Use Apple’s subscription management to cancel it.

Delete all data

Settings > Delete All Data removes your financial records and recovery points from this device. It is available without a subscription. This cannot be undone, so export a backup first if you need one.

Exported backups and copies in operating-system backups are not deleted. Your subscription is not canceled.

Changing currency

Changing the currency setting changes the currency label shown with amounts. It does not perform an exchange-rate conversion, and the numbers you entered stay the same.

For example, changing the label on “100” from yen to dollars does not convert ¥100 into its dollar equivalent. Check what currency your existing records represent before making a change.

Ledger time zone

The ledger’s saved time zone determines “today” and the dates used for records and recurring entries. A new ledger uses the device time zone at creation. Existing data without a time zone keeps Japan time (Asia/Tokyo). Traveling or changing the device time zone does not automatically change the ledger time zone.

A manual change in Settings creates a recovery point and preserves each record’s calendar date, amount, and ID. The ledger time zone is saved, exported in backups, and restored with them. Adding time-zone support preserves recorded calendar dates, amounts, IDs, and settled history. Older data with mismatched unpaid debit banks still uses the existing compatibility repair. Bank assignments fixed by the new scope choices remain fixed after reopening or restoring.

Change a card’s debit bank

When changing a card’s debit bank, choose and confirm the scope:

  • Unpaid and future entries: update existing unpaid transactions and newly registered transactions going forward. Settled history keeps its original bank.
  • All entries, including settled history: move the bank recorded on settlements too, and recalculate both the old and new bank balances. Review these effects and explicitly confirm before applying this option.
  • Newly registered transactions only: existing transactions, including unpaid ones, keep their recorded bank. An already registered transaction stays unchanged even if its date is in the future.

This changes records within the ledger. It does not transfer money between banks or change the debit account registered with your card company.

Debit dates and holidays

Card debit dates are calculated from the closing day, payment month, and payment day. When “Move weekend payments to Monday” is on, you can also enable “Also move holidays and Dec 31 – Jan 3 to the next business day” (on by default when the app currency is yen).

Holidays are calculated from Japan’s national holiday law and may not include special one-off holidays. Changes to these date settings apply to transactions recorded from then on. Check your card statement for the actual debit date.

Subscriptions and restoring purchases

The planned Japan price is ¥150 per month, with a one-week free introductory trial for first-time subscribers Apple determines are eligible. Check the actual Apple purchase sheet for the price, offer details and eligibility, availability, and renewal terms.

In the production version, entering and editing data and restoring backups or recovery points require WalletAltis Plus, including for existing users. Viewing records, exporting backups, exporting or deleting recovery points, and Delete All Data remain available without a subscription or after it expires. The internal Beta version requires no purchase.

If a purchase is not recognized, check that you are using the Apple Account used for the purchase and that the subscription is active in Apple’s subscription list, then try the app’s purchase restoration function. This does not restore financial data.

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select the subscription to cancel. Check renewal and expiration dates on Apple’s screen. Sending a support email does not cancel a subscription.

Apple: Cancel a subscription
Apple: Request a refund

Refund requests and decisions follow Apple’s process. See the terms for the plan description.
